Established Shot / Camera angle
Rio de Janeiro |
This movement was within the seconds of 0:08 of the documentary this is called a established shot as the voiceover describes it However the image helps us reflect and imagine on how the main city looks like. The connotation is the meaning the meaning is for us to understand the comparison between the city and where people take crack.
Mies-En-Scene The mise en scene clearly shows us that the people who live in this
house are poor and do this because they dont have hope for the future and think crack is the way. In addition to this the denotation is that the clothes they are wearing define how they live which shows their low class standard the lighting is natural which its all they relie on since they dont not have enough money to invest in electronic lighting and live on rotten old tiles.
Editing
In this scene we see a close up shot so us the viewers we are aware of the main character who is with ross kemp who is a drug dealer the close up helps us understand how the person is living and portraits himself towards people. Furthermore the angle shot was zoomed out then zoomed in again this is meaning that the connotation is saying where he lives and how he is dressed portraits poverty and his addiction within his eyes. (3:46)mins
Sound
- The sound is very distinctive and it makes us viewers feel sympathy for the the people who are being interviewed.
- Non-diegetic sound• Sounds that characters CANNOT hear• Sounds that are not in the diegesis• Example: score (music) and voiceovers. – Score/music will often set mood/atmosphere
- The sound is there to help us follow and understand the story or the message being sent across through the video the narrator speaks in first person because he wants us to imagine that we are there with him which makes us feel sad and interested at the same time
You have made some relevant points about camera, sound and mise en scene Gaetan although you have not said much about editing. I would have liked you to choose your own documentary, not the one that you looked at in a group. Vanessa
